Modern Art's New Muse
An interactive exhibition accompanied by live bands, a string quartet, film screenings and some unforgettable artist-made mixed tapes was the logical conclusion for QUT Art Museum curators after a casual conversation identified the explosion of music in contemporary art.
Supported by music stalwarts 4ZZZ and Time Off, Under the Influence: Art & Music opens on 11 September to the club sounds of Brisbane DJ Chris Bennie.
Featured artists include Isobel Knowles, an animation video artist who has created filmclips for Architecture in Helsinki and Sarah Blasko; The Histrionics, a six-piece glam-rock cover band famous for their satirical sendups of the art world; and David Sequeira, a visual artist who aims to make viewers 'hear' colours and 'see' sounds.
Visitors are also encouraged to leave their mark on the exhibition by writing their favourite songs and bands on a dedicated fan wall.
