Glenda Linscott stars as Willy Russell's Shirley Valentine

Shirley's life a lesson for former 'prisoner' Glenda

Shirley Valentine is returning to Gardens Theatre (July 3-5), and new leading lady Glenda Linscott says playing the role of the popular Liverpuddlian housewife who gets a new lease on life has tought her a thing or two about her own life.

Glenda, who starred as tough bikie inmate Rita 'The Beater' Connors in the cult TV series Prisoner, says she connected with Shirley's struggle to be everything to everyone - a mother, a housewife, a careerwoman - and still have time for herself.

"It's an incredible thing for Shirley to break out of that, and I'm learning by experiencing her journey," Glenda said.
